Student held for GE13 outcome protest

9 May

GEORGE TOWN, May 9 — A student at a higher learning institution here was detained by police after allegedly staging an illegal demonstration in protest of the May 5 general election outcome.

A police spokesman when contacted said, however, that police released the student after recording his statement.

Police had to be called when pandemonium broke after a group of men attempted to disperse about 50 students who had gathered peacefully at 12.30pm, near the entrance to the institution’s premises.

It took police more than two hours to apprehend the student, who was then accompanied by Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin to the Sungai Nibong police station.  – Bernama
